#10 Spider-Man: Miles Morales

  • Developer: Insomniac Games
  • Publisher: Sony Interactive Entertainment
  • Platforms: PS5
  • Release: 2020
  • Co-op: N/A
  • Competitive Multiplayer: N/A

If you loved Spider-Man on the PlayStation 4, Insomniac Games has a brand new adventure coming out later this year. Set to be a PlayStation 5 exclusive, Spider-Man: Miles Morales is a brand new story for players to go through. As the name suggests, players won’t be taking the role of Peter Parker this time around as the development studio opted to make a smaller scoped video game title set around Miles Morales. Rather than being a DLC, this game will be large enough to be its own standalone title on the PlayStation 5 although you can expect the same size game as something like Uncharted: The Lost Legacy. We’re still waiting for more information about the game, but it seems that the title will focus on Miles Morales a year after the events of Spider-Man. With a new war brewing between a high-tech equipped gang and an energy corporation, Miles is forced to use his powers to keep those he loves and innocent lives from being in harm’s way.

While the gameplay will remain the same overall in Spider-Man: Miles Morales from the original PlayStation 4 Spider-Man release, you can expect some differences. For instance, there seem to be some new powers that Miles Morales can pull off that Peter Parker couldn’t. With that said, it doesn’t appear that Insomniac Games is done with Peter Parker, but it may be a bit longer before we can a true sequel to Spider-Man.

#9 Marvel’s Avengers
  • Developer: Crystal Dynamics, Eidos Montreal
  • Publisher: Square Enix
  • Platforms: Stadia, PC, PS4, XBO
  • Release: May 15, 2020
  • Co-op: Online Only 4 Players
  • Competitive Multiplayer: N/A

The Marvel cinematic universe is quite popular now and we also receive a stellar video game installment from the Marvel universe. We’re of course referring to the 2019 release Marvel’s Spider-Man. However, it looks like a new potential hit is in the works over at Crystal Dynamics with Eidos Montreal. The video game is Marvel’s Avengers, which has been a secret project for Crystal Dynamics but after E3 2019, we got the first glimpse of the game and what it will be about. Players will be controlling Earth’s mightiest heroes when humanity is caught in extreme peril.

The game follows after the events of A-Day, a moment in history where the Avengers unveil the new hi-tech headquarters in San Francisco. Things go awry causing a catastrophic accident that resulted mass panic and death. Fast forward a few years and The Avengers disbanded and heroes in general, were outlawed. Now a new threat on the planet may cause The Avengers to team back up and embark on a new mission to save humanity from annihilation.

#8 Assassin’s Creed Valhalla

  • Developer: Ubisoft
  • Publisher: Ubisoft
  • Platforms: PC, PS4, XBO, PS5, XSX
  • Release: 2020
  • Co-op: N/A
  • Competitive Multiplayer: N/A

The Assassin’s Creed franchise has been around for console generations at this point. It’s adapted as well over the years and while it was at one point an annual IP release, Ubisoft opted to put the franchise on ice for a year after the launch of Assassin’s Creed Odyssey back in 2018. This meant that through 2019 we had to wait and see just where the much-beloved franchise would take players next. We of course now know that we’re being taken to the Viking age with Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. Ubisoft is putting players into a Viking leader during their expansion into Europe. It’s a difficult battle ahead from the opposing forces though with will power, your followers, and the gods, you can’t possibly lose.

We’re still waiting to hear more about this game, though coming from Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, we’re expecting some of the same styles of gameplay get brought over to this installment. Ubisoft has made Assassin’s Creed Origins and Odyssey a bit more action-oriented with various weapons, gear pieces, and customization abilities. There is also bound to be plenty of traveling involved with the use of longboats being displayed in the initial reveal trailer. Of course, what we’re also expecting to see is plenty of exploration and characters to meet. Ubisoft has already confirmed that going into this installment from Assassin’s Creed Odyssey will grant a few changes that fans had complained about. For instance, it doesn’t look like Valhalla will be using much of a leveling system. This could mean the game won’t force players to go through a series of side quests in order to complete the main campaign.

#7 Twin Mirror
  • Developer: Dontnod Entertainment
  • Publisher: Bandai Namco Entertainment
  • Platforms: PC, PS4, XBO
  • Release: December 1, 2020
  • Co-op: N/A
  • Competitive Multiplayer: N/A

Dontnod Entertainment has a new episodic adventure title in development for players to enjoy. The development studio may be best known for their Life is Strange series but the next episodic journey coming within 2020 is Twin Mirror. This is an upcoming psychological thriller which follows a protagonist named Sam who returns back to his old hometown to attend the funeral service of his best friend. Things take a turn for the worse when he awakens with no memories of the previous day while also covered in blood.

The development team is setting players up for a mature adventure title and Dontnod Entertainment definitely has experience in delivering fans with morally tough decisions through their developed campaigns. We haven’t seen too much in terms of the game so far, but if it’s anything like Life is Strange and Vampyr, players will be exploring the surroundings along with being presented with several choices in which will have bigger consequences within the game. Regardless, this is one title that is turning some heads since its announcement and we’re certainly going to keep tabs on it.

#6 Half-Life: Alyx

  • Developer: Valve
  • Publisher: Valve
  • Platforms: PC
  • Release: March 2020
  • Co-op: N/A
  • Competitive Multiplayer: N/A

For years now we’ve been waiting for the fabled Half-Life 3 announcement and its become quite a running joke now. Valve has been letting fans wait for a new installment for the beloved franchise, though it was quite a shock to see Half-Life: Alyx get announced. Now, this isn’t the Half-Life 3 we have been waiting for, in fact, the game itself takes place prior to the events of Half-Life 2. With that said, it will be a brand new adventure for players to enjoy set in the Half-Life universe.

This is a VR video game where players step into the role of Alyx Vance. As Alyx, you will be fighting off the Combine with her father Eli Vance. The trailer has shown quite a narrative-driven experience and with Valve developing the game, we have some high expectations that should make this VR title likely well worth the investment alone in purchasing a compatible headset and components required to get the title to run.

#5 Minecraft: Dungeons
  • Developer: Mojang
  • Publisher: Xbox Game Studios
  • Platforms: XBO, PC, NS, PS4
  • Release: 2020
  • Co-op: Online
  • Competitive Multiplayer: TBA

Mojang, best known for their release of Minecraft, has a new upcoming title known as Minecraft Dungeons. This is a different style of Minecraft game as players can’t build or craft, but instead will play the title as a dungeon crawler. Players will explore randomly-generated dungeons and defeat monsters, solve puzzles and locate treasures. While the game can be enjoyed alone, it’s best played with a group of friends with a total of four players embarking the journey.

#4 Final Fantasy VII Remake

  • Developer: Square Enix
  • Publisher: Square Enix
  • Platforms: PS4
  • Release: March 3, 2020
  • Co-op: N/A
  • Competitive Multiplayer: N/A

Final Fantasy VII was a massive hit when it first released for the original PlayStation and years fans have been pleading for Square Enix to go back and remake the game for current-generation platforms. After years of requests, Square Enix finally unveiled that Final Fantasy VII would receive a remake for the PlayStation 4 and we’re slowly gearing up for its release. The video game will follow the same premise of Cloud joining the Avalanche group as they fight against the Shinra corporation. All the highs and lows of this story will be presented to veteran fans along with newcomers to the video game installment.

Before you step into this adventure with Cloud and his friends, you’ll find that there are some changes made to the game. The most notable change to Final Fantasy VII is that the developer dropped the turn-based combat that the old school Final Fantasy games featured. Instead, this is an action-RPG which means that players will find the combat to mimic games like the Kingdom Hearts series. Likewise, don’t expect Final Fantasy VII Remake to release fully but instead Square Enix is sending the game out in an episodic form similar to the past Telltale Games releases or the Dontnod Entertainment Life is Strange series.

#3 The Outer Worlds – Peril of Gorgon

  • Developer: Obsidian Entertainment
  • Publisher: Private Division
  • Platforms: PC, PS4, XBO, NS,
  • Release: September 9, 2020 (DLC)
  • Co-op: N/A
  • Competitive Multiplayer: N/A

The Outer Worlds was one of the best RPGs to release in 2019. There were plenty of high expectations on the game due to it being developed by Obsidian Entertainment as these folks know how to deliver some RPG titles in the past. Luckily, Obsidian Entertainment delivered in a big way which has plenty of fans eager to see just what the studio will bring out next. While the studio certainly have a full plate of content in the works both new exclusives for Microsoft and unannounced projects, they are also going back and delivering two storyline expansion packs for The Outer Worlds. This first DLC is unveiled to be Peril of Gorgon.

Set to be added into the game seamlessly, those that either start a new game post-launch for the DLC will be able to enter the campaign whenever they choose otherwise if you completed the campaign, you simply have to head into a specific area to unlock the mission. Overall, you and your crew will be asked to investigate an abandoned Halcyon mining post on the asteroid Gorgon. From there it would seem there’s a mysterious quest that will take players to new areas along with some familiar locations. Going into this DLC you can expect some new NPCs, quests, perks, weapons, and more. Additionally, this should help flesh out the game campaign a bit longer as it’s slated to bring in about eight hours of content.

#2 Cyberpunk 2077
  • Developer: CD Projekt Red
  • Publisher: CD Projekt Red
  • Platforms: PC, PS4, XBO
  • Release: December 10, 2020
  • Co-op: N/A
  • Competitive Multiplayer: Post-launch

Cyberpunk 2077 is easily one of the most anticipated video games coming out in 2020. This is being developed by the creators of The Witcher series, CD Projekt Red. The game will be an open world RPG but set in a futuristic world where crime and greed flourishes. Players take on a role of a mercenary who must take odd jobs and work up their street cred in order to gain the respect and the higher paying gigs. But how you handle these jobs and go about the game can be completely up to you. As a result, this narrative campaign will offer a few different endings giving some replay value. In fact, there was also confirmation that the title will start off players with a choice of three different prologues that will shape the character background story.

The world in Cyberpunk 2077 looks filled and apparently, there will be plenty of options of interactions along with mindlessly exploring the city. As the name suggests, there is a focus on tech in this game world with players having the option to make various augmentations to their body that may complement their play style or help in a given situation. Plenty of hype is building up on this game and we’re hoping that CD Projekt Red can deliver just as they did with their past incredibly well-received series, The Witcher.

#1 The Last of Us Part 2

  • Developer: Naughty Dog
  • Publisher: Sony Interactive Entertainment
  • Platforms: PS4
  • Release: February 21, 2020
  • Co-op: N/A
  • Competitive Multiplayer: TBA

Are you ready to dive back into another adventure with Ellie and Joel? A new installment to The Last of Us is coming out in 2020. The Last of Us Part II follows Ellie several years after the events of the first installment, but you’ll find that the adventure is pivoting away from the zombie-like virus. If you recall the first installment, The Last of Us takes players into a journey where the goal is to potentially solve the pandemic virus going around the world. As you likely already know, the story doesn’t end on a positive note when it comes to solving the pandemic, but now several years later, it seems that most are used to living with these creatures.

The story now is based around Ellie’s revenge. A cult-like group has seemingly killed Ellie’s love interest causing Ellie to get rid of the group once and for all. It does appear that our protagonist won’t be entirely alone on this adventure. We’re likely going to see Joel appear on the journey in some capacity but it’s hard to speculate just how much he will be around as he’s likely getting to a point where he can’t keep up in his older age. One thing is for sure, this is one adventure title that already has the interest of plenty of players.

Doom Eternal The Ancient Ones DLC

  • Developer: id Software
  • Publisher: Bethesda Softworks
  • Platforms: PC, PS4, XBO, NS, PS5, XSX/S
  • Release: October 20, 2020 (DLC)
  • Co-op: N/A
  • Competitive Multiplayer: N/A

Doom was a massive hit when it launched in 2016 as a reboot to the beloved classic FPS franchise. However, one thing that the fans really wanted the development team at id Software to pull off in the next installment is some content to enjoy post-launch. The 2016 Doom reboot didn’t have anything in that regard so players could only just replay the campaign or enjoy the multiplayer game modes. That wasn’t going to be the case for Doom Eternal as the developers wanted to ensure that fans would have content to play after the finished the main campaign.

The first DLC expansion is set to launch this October and it’s called The Ancient Ones. I’m going to avoid spoiling anything regarding Doom Eternal, but this DLC is set to take place after the campaign ends. Players will have new enemies to face against along with some additional levels. Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like we are going to get any new weapons this time around, but it should be a decent length DLC for players that are itching for some more action-packed content.

  • Developer: Counterplay Games
  • Publisher: Gearbox Publishing
  • Platforms: PS5, PC
  • Release: 2020
  • Co-op: Online
  • Competitive Multiplayer: TBA

Godfall was first announced during The Game Awards 2019 where it unveiled to be exclusive to the PlayStation 5 and PC platforms. Now not a ton of information is out at the moment for the title, but we do know that this will be a loot shooter with a high fantasy setting. Players will be a member of the Knight’s Order which is tasked in preventing any major apocalyptic events. From the footage released so far, it looks like there will be some customization options with your weapon.

In the game players take control of Valorplates which will be based around classes and from there can offer a variety of different combo mechanics. In a lot of ways, people are comparing the weapon and armor sets to how Monster Hunter handles gear. So far, all we know is that the game will be coming out sometime late this year and chances are we won’t see any more of the game until Sony officially unveils the PlayStation 5.

Disaster Report 4: Summer Memories

  • Developer: Granzella
  • Publisher: NIS America
  • Platforms: PC, PS4, NS
  • Release: April 7, 2020
  • Co-op: N/A
  • Competitive Multiplayer: N/A

If you’re familiar with the Disaster Report franchise then you may have remembered this particular installment was meant to be released back on the PlayStation 3. These games follow a natural disaster scenario where players take the role of a citizen having to make it out of the area safely. Back in 2011, the game was halted after the real-life Tohoku earthquake and tsunami. Now after pleas for the game series to return the development studio Granzella decided to bring it out again.

Once again, this is a game based around a destroyed city as players venture through the area having to help people out and make safe decisions that would ultimately lead to their rescue. In this particular installment, the game is focused around a massive earthquake leaving our protagonist stranded in debris.

Streets of Rage 4

  • Developer: Lizardcube, Guard Crush Games, Dotemu
  • Publisher: Dotemu
  • Platforms: Dotemu
  • Release: PC, PS4, XBO, NS
  • Co-op: Online, Local
  • Competitive Multiplayer: N/A

The classic beat ‘em up is back in action with Streets of Rage 4. Sega’s iconic franchise is finally getting some new life with the help of Dotemu and it looks like it will continue to keep the same overall gameplay and mechanics from the first three mainline installments. 8 student blogs to check out work. Players will be going through waves of enemies by using a basic array of attacks from both your fists to melee weapons. This particular installment will take place ten years after the events of Streets of Rage 3 where players are once again having to clean up the streets from thugs and organized crime. There will be a few characters to choose from as well with the game featuring past iconic heroes such as Axel Stone and Blaze Fielding to newcomers like Cherry Hunter.

The Last Campfire

  • Developer: Hello Games
  • Publisher: Hello Games
  • Platforms: PC, PS4, XBO, NS
  • Co-op: N/A
  • Competitive Multiplayer: N/A

Hello Games may be best known for No Man’s Sky. The game was incredibly anticipated and while it failed to live up to those expectations initially, the development studio had kept up with the work and brought out several updates to make it more of what the game was originally envisioned about. Now the studio has a new game in the works called The Last Campfire, an adventure game with puzzle and platforming mechanics. Not too many details are known about this game right now but we do know you take the role of a being known as an ember. Lost from his home, players will venture out into the wilderness in hopes of finding not only his homeland but also some meaning.

12 Minutes

  • Developer: Luis Antonio
  • Publisher: Annapurna Interactive
  • Platforms: PC, XBO
  • Release: 2020
  • Co-op: N/A
  • Competitive Multiplayer: N/A

12 Minutes is an adventure game coming from a former artist that worked at Rockstar Games and Ubisoft. The game is rather simplistic to understand, it mimics concepts such as the film Groundhog Day or the video game The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask in that gamers have to deal with a time loop aspect. In order to progress, players will be replaying a 12-minute cycle until they complete the tasks at hand.

From what we know so far, the game follows a man who learns that his wife is pregnant but the celebration is cut short as a cop bursts into the room and accuses the wife of murder. The scuffle ends up with the wife dead but then the game restarts and it’s up to you in navigating the day in hopes in finding a peaceful resolution.
